The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you. Semester 1 courses will be available for booking from the second week of October and Semester 2 courses from the second week of February.

Target audience: Early stage postgraduate research students (especially off-campus) and early career researchers. 

This course is designed for researchers who would like to learn the basic skills necessary to analyse data using the statistical analysis software package SPSS.

Description:

Introduction to SPSS is an online course designed to teach you the basics of IBM® SPSS® Statistics. It consists of a series of tutorials covering subjects including coding variables, performing data transformations and generating descriptive statistics and graphs. Later tutorials explain how to perform specific statistical tests.

The course does not cover the analysis of individual's experimental data or discussion of their experimental design.

Aims/ Objectives:

This course aims to introduce researchers to the use of SPSS in quantitative data analysis

By the end of this course you will have:

- Become familiar with the layout and functions of SPSS
- Learnt how to perform basic tasks such as entering data and coding variables as well as generating graphs and descriptive statistics
- Practised these tasks using a test dataset
- Learnt how to perform some statistical tests

Process:

This is a standalone (self-study) online course. This course is delivered entirely online via Moodle and is self-study. You may access the course as often as you like until the end of the academic year. If you would like to gain Researcher Academy training point/s for this course you must complete the short assessment tasks associated with it. Completion of the assessment is optional for students based at our UK and Malaysia Campus'. Students based at our Ningbo China Campus are not required to complete the assessment.
