Research in the Civil Service: An Insider's story from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO)

Target Audience:

PGR Students and Research Staff with an interest in research in the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Process:

This is primarily a spoken presentation followed by Q&A.

Course Description:

Researcher Academy welcomes Dr Sarah Bennett, a diplomat in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The FCO is the UK government department responsible for protecting and promoting British interests around the world. It scores highly as an employer that graduates would most like to work for.
Sarah will give an insiders view of what it is like to use a PhD in the FCO, as a research analyst and as a generalist officer; the realities of working in the diplomatic service, in the UK and overseas, from a highly personal perspective. Sarah is not a recruiter, she is a civil servant, and this is a rare opportunity to hear a researcher’s story from inside the FCO.
