This session is for Postgraduate Research students and Research-only staff.

Shut Up and WriteFest is a short, two hour writing retreat open to all research staff and postgraduate researchers (Res or PhD) who need the time, space and environment to finish a piece of academic writing in November - academic writing month (#AcWriMo).

Do you have some academic/research writing to start or finish? Do you have a part of your thesis or a paper that you want to focus on? Do you need some time and space to focus on a particular piece of writing?

WriteFest is a university-wide festival of research writing, that brings people together into supportive communities and celebrates all forms of academic writing.

This year, WriteFest is being run in conjunction with the University of Sheffield and Warwick University. Staff and postgraduate researchers from Nottingham can sign up to attend any of the Nottingham workshops or retreat sessions.

Shut Up and WriteFest are short, two-hour writing retreats open to all academic and research staff and doctoral researchers (including MRes students) who need a quiet space and the time to focus on writing. The purpose is to provide you with a low distraction environment away from your usual working space to get on with writing.

Attendees should come to the event with everything you need, i.e. research resources, pen and paper or a laptop (fully charged) if you use one.

Participants will be encouraged to monitor and run their own Pomodoro time management if they wish; unlike our normal "Shut Up and Write" sessions, "Shut Up and WriteFest" retreats are full on, two-hour writing intensive environments.

This is a short, two hour writing intensive environment. Desk space will be provided for researchers to dedicate a full day to a writing task of their choosing.

You can attend as many Shut Up and WriteFest retreats as you'd like.

For more information on the Pomodoro Technique please visit http://pomodorotechnique.com/

Pre-Requisites Participants should bring all their resources for writing. Unfortunately, laptops/PCs will not be supplied. WiFi and power sockets available.

Participants should also bring anything they need to make themselves comfortable for the writing period as required (e.g. support cushions, wrist support, etc.).
