Introduction to Policy Impact 

Who should attend?

Academics and research staff interested in finding out how to influence policy makers based on their research findings, and APM staff whose roles include supporting academics on impact work. 

Learning Outcomes 

This 2 hour session will explain why academics should consider engaging with policy; introduce the principles of policy impact; explain the basics of policy making in the UK and how academics can participate in it; and explore some handy tips and tools to help you begin to put your policy impact work into practice. 

 
Participants will: 

  • Learn key planning tools for policy impact; 
  • Learn how to identify their policy audiences and tailor their messages 
  • Explore some of the channels they might use for policy impact 
  • Gain insight into how to plan for evaluation and evidencing 
  • Learn where to go for further support and more in-depth advice 

Process 

Presentation, group discussion and interactive exercises.
