This course was formerly known as Marking and Assessment (Engineering).

Course Description:

This half-day workshop considers the purpose and practice of demonstrating in lab practicals, and marking and assessing student work (lab reports)  It also touches on good practice in providing feedback to students.  This session consists of tutor input and small group work.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the demonstrators role before, during and after the practical;
  • Tackle some common problems in lab classes;
  • Explain the use and purpose of difference types of assessment;
  • Address common issues in marking lab reports;
  • Identify good practice in proving student feedback.


Who should attend?

Engineering postgraduate students who are involved in teaching lab classes and have, or will have, marking and assessement responsibilities.
