Participants will learn how to utilise their memory attic and recall information using a number of creative techniques, including visual association and recognition and the use of narratives. They'll understand how the memory works and how to get the best of out it, whilst organising ideas and concepts for effective delivery. A number of memory building activities will be carried out to hone and strengthen the mind, improve clarity and stimulate the recollection of information.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able to: 

  • Discover and utilise the 'memory attic';
  • Improve visual association skills;
  • Understand how the memory works and how to make the most of it;
  • Stretch the memory muscle by recalling names and details;
  • Introduce and practice mnemonic techniques including association of an idea with a location;
  • Use the narrative structure as a tool for recognition and to absorb more information;
  • Develop creative processes to retain and deliver new ideas/concepts;
  • Improve clarity and focus.


This workshop will be hands on and practical, with lots of fun and imaginative activities to tone and strengthen the memory.


This course is run by an external tutor, Alison Davies. Alison is an author of several fiction and non-fiction books, a professional storyteller and a creative practitioner. She runs workshops at universities throughout the UK, showing academics, students and  early years practitioners how stories can be used as tools for teaching and learning. Alison likes to engage her audience, through a creative use of language and the narrative structure. Her sessions are hands on and practical, with the emphasis on stretching the imagination and having fun.
