Our Adult MHFA 4 session course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider.

Mental Health First Aiders have:

  • An in depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through the University, the NHS, or a mix.

What to expect:

  • We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn.
  • You will get an MHFA manual to keep and refer to whenever you need it. When you complete the training you'll get a certificate to say you are a Mental Health First Aider.

Becoming a Mental Health First Aider

This course allows you to be qualified as a Mental Health First Aider for Adults. This is a nationally recognised qualification designed by Mental Health First Aid England. Mental Health First Aiders at the University are able to join the UoN MHFA network for professional development and support.

What will you learn about on the course?
You can find full details of what is covered in each session on MHFA England's website. Please note dates and booking links for UoN courses are found below (our courses will not be listed on MHFA England's website).

How much does it cost?

This course has a value of £300 per person which will be met by Professional Development.  However, if you book a place and do not attend, we will need to pass on the cost for the training resources to your area.  Similarly if you cancel your place within one week of course starting you will be charged.  Charge will be £25.00 per person.

Who is your MHFA Instructor?
Your instructor will be a member of staff from the University of Nottingham who has been trained to deliver this course in line with MHFA England’s quality standards.
