Microsoft Excel: Functions and Formulas

In this course, you will learn how to create Formulas (manually created) and Functions (pre-defined formula that performs calculations using specific vales in a particular order).   

By utilising these principles you will then be able to analyse data within your spreadsheets.  By attending this course, you will then be able to build on these foundations to be able to use the more advanced functions of Microsoft Excel, in preparation for the Microsoft Excel More Functions course.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this course you should be able to:

• Creating formulas to add, subtract, divide and multiply
• Writing formulas that reference cells in different worksheets and workbooks
• Using the Function Wizard to find the sum, average, highest value and lowest value
• Recognise when and how to use the two types of cell referencing, e.g. absolute and relative
• Understanding error messages
• Checking for and understanding errors using the Formula Auditing feature

Pre-Requisites:

The course is designed for participants who have attended the “Microsoft Excel Foundation of Spreadsheet Creation” course or have a good working knowledge of this software.

To participate in this session you will need to have the latest version of Microsoft Office installed on your device before the session starts. If you are unsure if you have the latest version please see the Install Office Updates web page.  This session will focus on the Windows version of Microsoft Office.

Course Leader input, demonstrations, and hands-on practical sessions.

You are required to attend the whole of the course, this is not a "drop in" session.
