IMPORTANT UPDATE (17 March 2020): In light of University guidance to move events and meetings online where possible, the three scheduled face-to-face briefings are cancelled. We invite you to participate in an alternative event to be delivered via MS Teams. This will mirror as far as possible what had been planned for face-to-face delivery, providing an overview of the proposed new policy (audio plus slides) as well as an opportunity to ask questions and explore possibilities.

Course aims

This session provides an overview of the proposed new UKRI open access policy and the implications for researchers at the University of Nottingham.

Web Notes Overview

UKRI has recently reviewed its open access policy to align with the principles of Plan S, which is a concerted international attempt to accelerate progress towards immediate and full open access to research publications. The proposed policy also seeks commonality with the post-2021 REF open access policy.  

Pending the outcome of UKRI's current consultation on its proposals, the new open access policy will apply to:

• peer-reviewed research articles (published in journals and conference proceedings, and on open access publishing platforms) from 1 January 2022; and
• monographs, book chapters and edited collections from 1 January 2024.
