Objectives: 

By the end of the session, participants will:

  • be able to log in to, and off from, the Unix service
  • have an understanding of the Unix filestore
  • be able to move around the filestore, and create, modify and delete files
  • have an understanding of command options
  • have an understanding of file permissions

Pre-Requisites:

An account on the Unix system is required by delegates on the course. If you do not have an account or are unsure contact your local IT Support team to check/setup this access.

Target Audience:

Getting  Started on the Unix service is aimed at anyone who is using the University Unix services, and has little or no prior exposure to Unix. Getting Started on the Unix service is also a pre-requisite for the HPC Course and Getting More out of Unix.
