Researcher Academy as part of the Medicine and Health Sciences Faculty N-Trans Training Programme.

The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you.

Audience

Postgraduate Research Students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences undertaking the N-trans training programme.

Research-only staff in the Faculty of M&HS may also attend these sessions.

The N-trans training programme is convened by Researcher Academy.

Session description

The meeting will be a forum for discussion on translational research with a particular focus on the broader impact of research.

What is translational research?

Translational research is an approach to life sciences and biomedical research that is intended to accelerate outcomes applicable to healthcare. Translational research has its focus on removing barriers to multi-disciplinary collaboration. Translational research techniques allow physicians, physiologists and pharmacologists to utilise cross-disciplinary expertise to accelerate progress towards tangible healthcare outcomes. It is through the meaningful collaboration between clinicians, researchers and operational staff that research endeavour is most effectively apportioned to those with the most suitable expertise; an understanding of the possibilities, expertise and needs of adjacent disciplines is required to allow such fruitful cross-disciplinary research, and a common language assists in open communication.

Impact sandpit

This sandpit will be lead by an academic facilitator and will focus on the socio-economic and academic impact of research. The discussions will include browsing of poster presentations that focus on the impact of a range of research projects currently underway in the Faculty and the opportunity to consider the impact of your own research through the preparation/updating of an impact statement for your own research project.

Lunch will be provided, please include any special dietary requirements when booking.

There are three N-trans specific meetings per year. For details of the N-trans sandpit and workshops visit

N-trans Sandpit 1: Research Presentations
N-Trans Workshop 2: Recognising and developing impact in medical research
N-trans Workshop 3: Opportunities and skills development in applying for research funding

Booking Conditions

Latecomer policy

Researchers should plan to arrive prior to the advertised course start time. Except for exceptional reasons, there will be no admittance to a Researcher Academy or Faculty Training Programme (FTP) course 15 minutes after the advertised course start time.

Importance of booking commitment

When booking on to a Researcher Academy short course you are entering into a commitment to attend. If you find that you are no longer available to attend you MUST cancel your place (on the system if more than three days before the course) or if at short notice by emailing ra-training@nottingham.ac.uk. This will ensure that your place can be offered to another researcher on the waiting list. Failure to cancel a place results in other researchers missing out on places through the waiting list process.

It is unacceptable for researchers to just not attend when booked onto a course. The Researcher Academy maintains records of those who repeatedly do not attend courses they have booked. This may affect future eligibility to book onto further Researcher Academy courses and will affect considerations for Researcher Academy funded opportunities.
