Who should attend?

Anyone working in HE who is interested in improving their communication skills, and those who want to develop creativity and apply it to their writing and academic practice. NB This session is not about learning English, but about using it effectively, so a good understanding of English language is required.

Course Description:

Participants will learn how to make the most of language and make it work for them. They will learn how to use it effectively to deliver key concepts, both verbally and in their writing. Emphasis will be placed on breaking down barriers to communication, and helping participants flex their creative skills. This session is hands on, practical, and fun.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the workshop you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate improved verbal and written communication skills;

  • Use language effectively to deliver key concepts;

  • Say how you have developed your personal and professional confidence.

Course Tutor

Alison Davies is an experienced trainer and creative practitioner. An author of thirteen books on a range of subjects and a professional storyteller, Alison delivers workshops for both the public and private sector throughout the UK. She has been involved in a number of ground-breaking projects using narratives, in particular working with the law school at Leicester University and delivering seminars using storytelling and presentation techniques as part of legal ethics seminars. She also writes for a selection of magazines, newspapers and educational journals. Her goal is to encourage a creative approach in all aspects of teaching and learning.
