This course is suitable for postgraduates and early career researchers who are new to teaching. 'Teaching International Students' is more suitable for experienced staff.

Course Description:


Communication and interaction with students from different cultures can be hampered by cultural differences. This course is an opportunity to explore some of these differences and examine ways in which communication can be improved.

This course is tutor led and involves group discussion and case studies.


Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Have some working knowledge of how 'culture' impacts on learning;
  • Identify barriers faced by students from different cultures in adapting to UK teaching;
  • Develop a range of techniques for maximising learning and dealing with cultural differences.
