This course is aimed at any researcher who is interested in working with colleagues from other disciplines.

Pre-requisites

It is strongly advised that participants are familiar with the basic concepts of working in a team and the principles of negotiation, prior to attending this course.

Process

This course is a participative small group workshop delivered over one day.

Description

This course has been designed for you to experience the issues of working in, and managing, an interdisciplinary research team. In particular, you will need to draw upon your skills of negotiation and teamwork in order to maximise your research potential in the case study used in the course.

The workshop uses a participative role-play approach, based on a case study, which will be useful both for your current situation as a postgraduate research student and a huge range of employment contexts.

    This course is for you if either you have been on courses dealing with assertiveness, negotiation and teamworking and want to further these and/or any related skills you have gained from elsewhere. We'll help put your existing capabilities into practice through a role play approach, based on working in an interdisciplinary research environment. You will work with others from a range of different disciplines and negotiate on issues derived from a case study. Best of all, you will receive individual feedback of your performance on the day and suggest how you might best use these skills within a postgraduate or employment context.
