In this seminar 3rd year medical student Alexander Satei and his supervisor Dr Katy Jones (Division of Psychiatry and Applied Psychology) will present findings from a preliminary online survey exploring supervisor’s experiences of mental health problems in PGR students. The survey aimed to capture the proportion of supervisors encountering PGR students with mental health problems and most common mental health problems dealt with by supervisors. It also examined how equipped PGR supervisors felt to help, whether they felt it was their role to help, and what kind of help supervisors have accessed or recommended to students in the past (if any). We hope the results will stimulate a discussion about what support or information supervisors need to both support students and take care of their own wellbeing.
