This informal session addresses the issue of writing the PhD thesis. Students receive a great deal of training and supervision on research design, methods, etc. but writing - and writing style - often gets overlooked. This session will consider what students find difficult about writing, how to encourage them to think about writing in a more proactive manner, and what makes good academic writing more generally. Colleagues are asked to think in advance about a particular academic whose style they admire and consider what it is that makes them so readable.
