Title

Research Supervisor Seminar Series :

Understanding Diversity and responses in supervision

Target Audience

University staff involved in research supervision (either formally or informally)

Process

Seminar session

Course Description

Given the close and highly individualised nature of research supervision it is all too easy to attribute difficulties and successes to the individuals concerned rather than examine cultural norms and values inherent in the relationship. In this session, Professor Sarah Sharples, (Pro Vice-Chancellor, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) and Dr Cathy Gibbons (former Advisor to UCU’s National Equalities Committee) will lead a mixture of discussion, presentation and workshop activity. Focus will be on a tripos of policy, personal perspectives, and supervisory practice, recognising that both PGRS and staff are diverse groups.
