Learning Outcomes

Process
The premise of the workshop is to introduce storytelling as a tool to engage an audience and deliver effective messages. In particular the day focuses on the use of stories to connect with an audience and deliver new concepts in an innovative way. The workshop is hands on, practical and fun.


Who should attend
Members of staff or Postgraduate research students working in the field of research, who need to engage with the general public. Unfortunately, there are no places available on this course for postgraduate taught masters students or undergraduates.

Tutor
This session will be led by Alison L R Davies. Alison is an author, creative practitioner and professional storyteller. Working in Universities throughout the East Midlands, she delivers courses on how storytelling can be used to enhance teaching and learning, making effective use of language, and developing interactive creative tools to engage with students in a range of subject areas. She has also delivered sessions on the MA in Writing at Nottingham Trent University, and has been involved in the development of a ground breaking narrative law project for Leicester University. Alison writes regularly for educational magazines newspapers and journals including the Time Educational Supplement, The Daily Mail, Practical Pre-School magazine, Teach Secondary, Teaching Statistics Journal, Teaching and Learning magazine, Child Education, and Teach Nursery. She has had several non-fiction books published on a range of subjects relating to the use of the narrative structure and storytelling. Her latest book ‘how to use festivals to inspire and engage with young children’ is due to be published by Routledge later this year.
