This face to face course is run by the Researcher Academy as part of the Medicine and Health Sciences Faculty Training Programme.

The Researcher Academy courses are very popular and the majority are run in both semesters to give you the opportunity to attend at a time of the year that suits you. 

Target audience: This session is for students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences only.

Process: Stand alone, online course delivered via the NIHR Learn portal (external provider)

Course Description:

Everyone involved in the conduct of clinical research must have training to ensure they are best prepared to carry out their duties. This is laid down in the Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care 2005, covering all research in the NHS in England, and in law for those people working on clinical trials. The principles of GCP state that: Each individual involved in conducting a trial should be qualified by education, training and experience to perform his or her respective task(s). 2.8, E6 Guideline for Good Clinical Practice.

This workshop will meet the needs of those people working at site level to deliver research in compliance with the RGF and the law. Attendees will receive a certificate in Good Clinical Practice.

Academic year 2020/21

For the current 2020/21 academic year, GCP training will take place online only. It is recommended that researchers complete the NIHR Learn 'Introduction to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) eLearning' (July 2020 release) as the equivalent course to the classroom session delivered for the Faculty of MHS annually. 

To access the course, researchers will need to register with NIHR Learn (external to the University) and then select 'Introduction to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) eLearning' (July 2020 release) course from the GCP course listings.

Proof of evidence of completion for PGR training records
Please note, this course will not appear on your csc training record. If required, you should upload/include your certificate of completion as evidence. The online course takes approximately 4 hours to complete and two University PGR training points can be attributed to completion.

Booking Conditions

Latecomer policy

Researchers should plan to arrive prior to the advertised course start time. Except for exceptional reasons, there will be no admittance to a Researcher Academy or Faculty Training Programme (FTP) course 15 minutes after the advertised course start time.

Importance of booking commitment

When booking on to a Researcher Academy short course you are entering into a commitment to attend. If you find that you are no longer available to attend you MUST cancel your place (on the system if more than three days before the course) or if at short notice by emailing ra-training@nottingham.ac.uk. This will ensure that your place can be offered to another researcher on the waiting list. Failure to cancel a place results in other researchers missing out on places through the waiting list process.

It is unacceptable for researchers to just not attend when booked onto a course. The Researcher Academy maintains records of those who repeatedly do not attend courses they have booked. This may affect future eligibility to book onto further Researcher Academy courses and will affect considerations for Researcher Academy funded opportunities.

 To attend this course you must register with NIHR and book a place on the course using csc. To do this, please follow these instructions:
a) Book a place on this training course by clicking on book a place in the listings at the bottom of this page.
b) Go to the NIHR Learning and Management System (LMS). Visit the GCP course Workspace (University of Nottingham's workspace) to view instructions on how to register with the NIHR LMS. 

You must complete as soon as possible and no later than 15 November both parts a and b above to attend this course. If you do not then your place will be cancelled and allocated to others on the waiting list.
