Microsoft Excel: Foundation of Spreadsheet Creation

In this course, you will learn the importance of producing spreadsheets that are structured and formatted correctly.  By utilising these principles you will then be able to create spreadsheets that are easier to interpret, analyse and present.  By attending this course, you will then be able to build on these foundations to be able to use the more advanced functions of Microsoft Excel.
 

Learning Outcomes:
 

At the completion of this course you should be able to:

  • Make changes to data in a workbook
  • Understand and work with ranges in a worksheet
  • Use the fill operations available to fill a data series
  • Understand, create and work with basic formulas and functions used to perform calculations (In preparation for the Microsoft Excel Calculations Course)
  • Format rows and columns in a worksheet
  • Understand and use formatting features
  • Printing and Page Setup including repeating titles, headers and footers, printable area etc. 
  • Create a bar chart (In preparation for the Microsoft Excel Charts Course)
  • Manage "long" spreadsheets including page breaks, freeze panes and split windows.

 

Pre-Requisites:

This course assumes some knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

 

To participate in this session you will need to have the latest version of Microsoft Office installed on your device before the session starts. If you are unsure if you have the latest version please see the Install Office Updates web page.  This session will focus on the Windows version of Microsoft Office.

Course Leader input, demonstrations, and hands-on practical sessions.

You are required to attend the whole of the course, this is not a "drop in" session.
