Managing the middle stage of an academic career

Target Audience

A series of short talks followed by Q&A or workshop sessions.

Course Description

Definitions of ‘mid-career’ in the academy vary considerably. In this session Professor Ed Wilding, Dean of Researcher Academy, will coordinate a group discussion around the challenges of managing demands on teaching, research and academic service (broadly covering leadership, management and administration) that frequently grow in parallel as time in post increases. The session will offer the opportunity to share experiences, perspectives and strategies for (among other elements) managing workload, negotiating and setting priorities, balancing internal and external commitments, managing upwards, and planning career development.

Speaker

Professor Ed Wilding, Dean of Researcher Academy
