Title

Research Supervisor Seminar Series :

The Role of the internal examiner

Target Audience

University staff involved in research supervision (either formally or informally)

Process

A series of short talks followed by Q&A or workshop sessions.

Course Description

There are many views around the role of the internal examiner in the examination of a Doctoral thesis and in the orchestration of the viva voce exam. Researcher Academy Associate Dean Prof Bettina Wolf will use this session to discuss their experience of the Internal Examiner role, and share some of the practices to which they have been exposed to; good, bad and ugly.

Formal policy on the role and appointment of internal examiners at the University of Nottingham can be found in the Quality Manual here: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/academicservices/qualitymanual/researchdegreeprogrammes/viva-voce-examinations.aspx
